99% of central heating faults can be repaired; this is not an invented figure, but based on years of experience.
Three reasons why heating engineers tell you that the problem can't be solved when it is not true.
1. Fault finding is much more difficult than installing or replacing; if you fail, you don't get paid. They may well know it can be fixed, but lack the confidence to take that risk.
2. It could be lack of knowledge and/or experience that make a plumber really believe it can't be done.
3. Greed. Solving a breakdown may earn you something between £100 and £200; selling an installation will can be 10 times as much.

Replacing a boiler is more work and involves more money. This

Late last year I came across an older boiler, a non-condensing
model of a dubious make. On top of that, the installer had clearly
not made a lot of effort to do a good job.
Parts although available, were very expensive. Apart from the
fact that at least one and possibly two parts were faulty and needed
replacing to get it going again, I also noticed signs of leaks in 5
different places.
It would have been less expensive in the long run to buy a new
boiler, but that is a matter of the home owner to decide, and I gave
him that choice.
The choice is yours, and should stay yours.
