Potterton Profile Netaheat repair in South London
Potterton Profile Netaheat repairs in
south London is another item that keeps me busy.
There are still thousands of them around, and should have a fair bit of life left in most cases. They have their own peculiar problems, this particular model seems
prone to intermittent faults. I have the impression that one part that is half broken, leads to a second item working at one time and then failing the next moment.
Many people in
south London had their
Potterton Profile Netaheat repaired, after several other companies had told them they needed
a new boiler.
When you have a problem with a "Potty" as we call them in the trade, call me on:

How to avoid the most common cons and rip offs
It doesn't always make sense financially for boilers that are between 15 and 25 years old to be repaired of course. Sometimes there are several faults, and
the parts alone cost a small fortune. I've also come across a number of cases where the boiler was simply too small for the size of the house, and no matter
what you do, it will simply not keep the place warm. I recently had a case a combination of factors would raise the bill to over £500, and with the planned
extension, it would be questionable in terms of capacity. On top of that, it was a rather exposed detached house and the gasbill was astronomical. A more efficient
boiler would save an estimated £300 to £400 per year at current gas prices. That makes replacement a serious consideration, but the choice to keep
the old boiler is there.
At this point, you may wonder why I am so confident that I can repair your
Potterton Profile Netaheat when several other plumbers told you
that there is no hope.
1. Fault finding is much more difficult than installing or replacing; It could be lack of knowledge and/or experience that makes a plumber
really believe it can't be done.
2. There is a risk to offering a "no cure no pay" repair: if you fail, you don't get paid. They may well know it can be fixed,
but lack the confidence to take that risk.
3. Money. Solving a breakdown may earn a boiler engineer something between and £100 and £200 selling an installation will can be 10 times as much.
Even a
Potterton Profile Netaheat will eventually reach the end of it's useful life. But contrary to a popular urban myth that boilers don't last more than
10 years any more, the chances of repairing this boiler successfully, are very good.
This particular model ranges from 30,000 btu which is about 9 kw to 100,000 btu or 30 kw. There are some differences internally, but when it comes
to what goes wrong with them and how to solve the breakdown, they are all very similar.
As long as the problem is not caused by massive corrosion, the chances are about 99% that I am able to repair your
Potterton Netaheat or
Profile for
a reasonable sum, with a remaining life expectancy of maybe up to 10 years.
Profile Netaheat vs Potterton Profile
There are two different boilers with very similar names that often cause confusion. The vast majority of people do not know exactly which boiler
they have. As long as things are working, it just hangs on the wall or sits (stands, if you want to be technically correct) on the floor and virtually nobody
gives it a second's worth of thought. I would be surprised if more than one in ten people even know which brand they have. From those that do remember the name,
there must be 80% that don't know the model, let alone the number (which ususally indicates the size).
You can imagine the trouble I have identifying which one of the two it is when people call me. To make life easier for all parties involved, I have made
a list of points that help you identify which one you have.
The
Potterton Netaheat (without the
Profile) is the oldest of the two. Over one million
Netaheats were manufactured between 1973 and 1987.
They tend to have a brown, glass "sliding door" of about two inches high that covers the boiler thermostat at the bottom front of the boiler. The glass
may be missing at this age, leaving just an opening of about 2 inches high and 8 wide.
The bottom cover is dark brown metal.
It is this older model that is the "real"
Potterton Neatheat.
The
Potterton Profile (with or without the
Netaheat) was made from 1988 until 2001. The earlier models were called "
Profile Netaheat" but
the addtition was dropped after a while.
Although quite similar in looks, the bottom cover of this one is greyish plastic with a big plastic control know sticking out from the middle
of this cover. It's a relatively small and unimportant difference, but it does make them look less dated.
Potterton Profile Netaheat repairs in
south London, whether it is the old one or the later model, are not a problem for me,
and I guarantee the work unless we clearly agree that the job is an emergency patch to carry over.
After diagnosing what the problem is, I will tell you what the cost will be, and how long it is likely to take to get it back up and working.
I am not interested in selling new boilers; my terms and conditions state exactly what I do and what you can expect.
