Potterton Suprima repairs in

How to avoid the most common cons and rip offs
These boilers can be found as open vent or sealed systems, which makes little difference from a fault finding point of view, apart from lack of
flow caused by airlocks. If only some of the radiators get hot, the hot water works but the heating does not or vice versa, it could well be that the problem
is just air in the system. This happens much more with open vent systems and is very rare on a sealed or pressurised set up. Always worth checking that the
header tank has water in it. It should not be full, but about one third when cold, to two thirds when warm.
All versions have external controls, an external pump, and the vast majority have an external diverter valve (also known as midposition valve) or two or more zone valves.
The timer or programmer drives the valves, and these in turn fire up the boiler. The boiler then activates the pump. When you find yourself without
heating or hot water, it speeds things up if you have checked these things already for yourself. If the pump runs, but nothing gets warm, the fault
is most likely inside the boiler. This is provided, of course, that it is all wired up correctly. Unfortunately this is often not the case, but nevertheless
it is worth checking.
If the pump is not running, you can go through a number of basic checks to make sure the boiler is actually broken. There may be maintenance works to the gas
or electricity to your home causing a temporary interruption in the supply, or various other reasons whey the boiler doesn't work without actually being broken.

The HE (High Efficiency) or condensing models are an updated version of the popular standard efficiency models to comply with the energy conservation
rules introduced in 2005. Although very similar to the standard efficiency models, they have several differences. The most important ones are the
secondary heat exchanger and the condensate outlet. Especially the condensate outlet can cause funny problems. If it is partially blocked, it can be
the source of intermittent failure. That is the technical term for: sometimes it works and sometimes (usually late at night, very early in the
morning or the weekend)the blasted thing does not. This is typically something NOT to experiment with, as a faulty condensate pipe can cause toxic fumes to

The difference between the Potterton Suprima L and the earlier model
The
Potterton Suprima was in production from 1988 until 2009. Until 2001 it was the "regular", and after that, it became the
Suprima L.
Without checking the details, most people would probably say it is the same boiler. They look the same, they are the same size, they sound the same, and when you
bump your head on them, they even feel the same. Nevertheless, there are important differences, but you can only tell if you really know about boilers, and check
the inside or compare the service and installation manuals that have all the technical details in them.
The first models had a small range over which the heat output could be adjusted. The
had one, fixed output. This sacrifices flexibility
in favour of a slightly higher efficiency and a more controlled combustion process. The upgraded version also has improved safety features that offer more
protection of the boiler in case of fault conditions. These are just two of the reasons why the internals of the boiler vary slightly. These differences may
be so small that you wouldn't notice unless you know exactly what to look for, but they are significant enough to stop the boiler from working if you replace a
part with one that is meant for another model.
